The results are in and all three Barterra Winery entries have won awards in this prestigious competition. This year more than 3,000 wines were entered from 22 countries and all 50 states were represented. The panel of 64 world-renowned judges was the largest ever selected for this competition. Barterra’s focus is on limited production, world-class wines, and we are proud to have this honor.
Award winners are:
2009 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Double Gold. This wine is amazing and still evolving – the grapes were harvested from Delmar’s Vineyard, high in the Alexander Valley, and only 125 cases were produced. This elegant wine was aged in a combination of new French oak and second year American oak.
2010 Carneros Chardonnay. Silver Medal. This wine has already been deemed a winner by Barterra customers – a rich, elegant Chardonnay. The Chardonnay grapes were harvested on the Napa side of the Carneros Creek, very close to Bay rocky, well drained soils. Whole cluster pressed, barrel fermented, 16 months aging in French oak, 25% new oak.
2006 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Bronze Medal Winner. This wine also took bronze at the San Francisco International Wine Competition in 2010 and continues to improve with age. This deep rich purple colored wine is full-bodied with old world character and a lush and delightful feel on the palate.
As with all our limited release wines, these wines will last years in the bottle but only several months in our cellars — so order now or stop by to see us soon!
